HSE has held the 5th International Relations Russia-China Summer School 'Eurasia 2020: Prospects for cooperation.' The school has been held since 2011 by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs jointly with the East China Normal University (Shanghai, China). This year it was held with support from the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund. This is the only summer school of this kind held in Russia.
The Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod continues to expand its international cooperation with the world's leading universities. In October 2013, the HSE signed an exclusive partnership agreement with the Southwest University of Political Science and Law in Chongqing, China.
A group of Chinese and Russian higher education institutions, including the Higher School of Economics, have initiated the creation of a BRICS League of Universities. The League aims to become a platform for academic and expert cooperation, comparative research, and international educational projects.
In October 2012, the Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA) and the Higher School of Economics held an international workshop ‘Labor Market Adjustment in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Central Asia and China in the Wake of the Great Recession’. On October 18th 2011, as part of the preliminary programme of the 3rd International Conference of the Russian Association of Higher Education Researchers, Professor Nian Cai Liu, author of the world-renowned Shanghai University Ranking, gave a lecture at the HSE.
On April 3rd, 2012, Justin Yifu Lin, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank, gave an honorary lecture at the HSE as part of the XIII April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development.
