HSE and Kyung Hee University Double Degree Programme in Economics and Politics in Asia' has signed an agreement with the Russian office of the Hyundai Corporation on the opening of an internship programme.

Although the agreement primarily concerns students from the double-degree programme, any 4th-year HSE student who has a good command of Korean will have the opportunity to participate in the competition for an internship in the Russian branch of the Hyundai Corporation, explains Denis Shcherbakov, Programme Academic Supervisor.

The specifics of the educational process of the new bachelor’s programme ‘Economics and Politics in Asia’ includes combining academic training with applied aspects, and ensuring students understand the real value of the knowledge they get and how it can be applied,’ says Denis Shcherbakov. For the Hyundai Corporation, Russian students are interesting as representatives of their culture and their generation, something which is particularly important for an international corporation focused on the future. ‘In my opinion, the cultural aspect is especially important here: it can help to connect Russia and Korea, says Mr. Kwak Homin, Head of the Russian Office of the Hyundai Corporation at the signing ceremony. ‘This agreement is a big step towards a closer relationship with each other.’

Potential interns should not only be fluent in Korean and English (the ‘Economics and Politics in Asia’ curriculum requires students to study Korean), but also have a good academic results and a desire to work in business.

The internship will last for between 8 weeks and 3 months and will be held in the second half of the academic year.

‘At first, we plan to involve students in cultural projects so that they get the initial experience of working in the company,’ says Mr. Kwak Homin. ‘Then they will be offered the chance to implement their own business ideas within the corporation. The Hyundai Corporation includes departments related to the shipbuilding and automotive industry, steel and even cosmetics production, so the company's management, will, of course, help interns and guide students in their creativity.’

Following a successful experience, students may be invited to work in the company Russian office.

The ‘Economics and Politics in Asia’ BA Double Degree Programme offers students a unique opportunity to pursue two degrees, one Russian and one Korean, from HSE and Kyung Hee University. The first two years, as well as the fourth, take place at HSE in Moscow, while in the third year, students have an opportunity to study in Korea, China or Japan.
