On September 13th 2011 a seminar by the HSE Institute for Educational Studies took place. A Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship Policies in Central and Eastern Europe has been published in the UK. Alexander Chepurenko, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Sociology, is the author of the chapter on 'Entrepreneurship and SME policies in fragile environments: the example of Russia'.
On July 22nd an information day dedicated to the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for research and technology development took place at the HSE. Anna Pikalova, Director of the HSE International Centre for the Promotion of Mobility of Researchers, Students and Postgraduates, told us about the HSE’s participation in this programme and particularly about the creation of a Russian-European information portal as part of FP7.
On July 11-th, the three day Russian-German seminar ‘S&T and Innovation Development’ started at HSE. The organizers of the event are the Institute for Statistical studies and Economics of knowledge (ISSEK, HSE) and the Fraunhofer Institute for systems and innovation research (ISI, Germany).
In early June a HSE delegation visited the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Arizona, Tucson. The host universities are partners of the HSE in the Innovative Infrastructure Development Programme.
On June 15th two new international laboratories which are part of the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, the Laboratory for Economics of Innovation headed by Ian Miles, and the Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies headed by Jean Guinet, were presented at the HSE.
In late 2010 – early 2011 international research laboratories which are jointly headed by prominent international researchers and leading experts of the university started their work at the Higher School of Economics. Maria Yudkevich, HSE Vice Rector, told us about the specifics of the research and educational work of the HSE international laboratories.
Interview with Pekka Sutela, Professor at the Aalto University, Helsinki. 20 years until March this year he worked at the Central Bank of Finland. Pekka Sutela was a participant of the international symposium ‘Twenty Years: Political and Economic Evolution in Post-communist Europe’ which was held at the HSE from May 23rd – May 25th.
On May 23rd the international symposium ‘Twenty Years: Political and Economic Evolution in Post-communist Europe’ started at the HSE. The event was organized by the Higher School of Economics with the support of the Liberal Mission foundation and the Friedrich Naumann foundation.
This year the Sociological Review journal celebrates its 10th anniversary. Alexander Filippov, its Editor-in-Chief, Head of the Center of Fundamental Sociology, HSE Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities, told us about the mission, history and authors of the journal.
