'Normal Is Not Ridiculous': Most Interesting Reports Presented at the HSE's XVII April International Academic Conference
The April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development is Russia’s leading academic forum on social and economic sciences, and has won international acclaim. The XVII April Conference hosted by the HSE with support from the World Bank took place in Moscow on April 19-22, 2016. A total of 900 papers were presented at the HSE's April Conference. We consider the following selection to be must-reads.
Higher Education in Russia and Beyond (HERB) team presents the 8th issue of a journal aimed at bringing current Russian, Central Asian and Eastern European educational trends to the attention of the international research community. This issue covers the transformation of higher education in former Soviet republics.
The Higher School of Economics is the first Russian university to become an associate member of a key project run by the Dahlem Humanities Center at the Free University of Berlin – ‘The Thematic Network Principles of Cultural Dynamics’. The project is aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the humanities.
Tatjana Kanonire received her PhD in Psychology from University of Latvia in Psychology. She joined HSE two years ago. First, she spent a year at the International Research and Teaching Laboratory for Socio-Cultural Research. Since October 2015 she has been working at the Centre for Education Quality Monitoring of the Institute of Education. HSE’s 'Foresight and STI Governance' among Top Russian Journals in Scopus' Research and Innovation Rankings
At the beginning of June, SCImago Journal and Country Rank announced its 2015 rankings of journals indexed in the international academic citation database Scopus. Foresight and STI Governance, a journal published by the Higher School of Economics, placed 115 in the new ranking. Less than three years ago, the journal placed into the second quartile in the Business, Management and Accounting (miscellaneous) ranking, becoming the first Russian publication to rank in this category. In addition, Foresight was among the top-ten best Russian journals in the social sciences and humanities, according to the Scopus ranking.
At a time when industrially developed countries are facing migration pressure, Russia needs to take a fresh look at immigration to assess its geopolitical benefits and prevent inherent social risks; a smart migrant integration policy can provide a solution.
The conference on network analysis aims to bring together scientists and engineers, representatives from the government and universities to exchange knowledge and results on a broad range of topics related to the theory and practice of network analysis. The conference also covered algorithms on graphs, networks, discrete optimization and applications.
The University of Hong Kong hosted the 4th Conference of Higher Education Research Association on May, 27–28. The theme of the conference was 'Equity, Employment, and Mobility in Asian Higher Education'.
