The winners of the Young Mathematicians of Russia Award were announced at the 6th Conference of Russia’s Mathematical Centres, held in Kazan in late August 2026. Four of the nine award recipients are graduates of the HSE Faculty of Mathematics: Associate Professor Alexander Kalmynin, PhD students Alexander Zaitsev and Petr Kucheryavyy, and researcher Dmitry Pirozhkov.

Artificial intelligence is not creating new professions, but rather transforming the nature of existing ones. This was the conclusion reached by participants in the panel session ‘Hybrid Intelligence: Digital and Human Drivers of Development,’ organised by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) at HSE University as part of the 13th International Forum of Technological Development (Technoprom-2026). The experts discussed how the nature of work is changing, which skills are becoming increasingly sought after, and what prevents companies from fully capitalising on new technologies.

Summer is traditionally a busy time for international research visits for colleagues at the International Laboratory of Research and Design in eLearning. This year, the Laboratory’s researchers presented their work at two major European education conferences.

From August 12 to 19, 2026, the international scientific event «Greenhouse Gas Fluxes: Current Issues in Modern Research» was held in Moscow and the Central Forest State Nature Biosphere Reserve. It included a conference, a field seminar, and a summer school. The International Laboratory of Landscape Ecology of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technologies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics co-organized the event and actively participated in its scientific and field program

On 21 August, at the Sixth Conference of Mathematical Centers of Russia in Kazan, Anastasia Onoprienko and Mikhail Rybakov presented a paper on the complexity of HC logic — a hybrid system combining classical and intuitionistic logics and its fragments.

From 21 to 25 July 2026, Florence hosted the 31st International Congress of Applied Psychology (ICAP 2026), the flagship event of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). Held once every four years, the congress brings together researchers and practitioners from around the world.

Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

Using big data mining system iFORA, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) has identified the key global scientific topics for 2025, along with associated promising technologies and products.

Jean-François Mehdi Jabir, a Senior Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Stochastic Analysis and Its Applications originally from France, has been working at HSE University since 2017. He was drawn to HSE by the opportunity to conduct joint research with leading Russian and international scientists, the freedom of academic discussion, and the openness of the university.
