Russian regions differ significantly in terms of their attitude to innovation, according to a new release of the Russian Regional Innovational Development Ranking prepared by the HSE's experts. Thus, almost one-third of all industrial companies in Chuvashia have implemented innovative technology, while more than half of all manufactured goods in Sakhalin Region are products of innovation; in contrast, little innovative activity is observed in most territories of the North Caucasus.

Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation MA programme at theInstitute for Statistical Studies and the Economics of Knowledge is open to anyone interested in learning how to commercialize scientific developments. On February 19, the award ceremony for the 2015 Startup of the Year competition was held at Moscow’s Digital October Centre. Nearly 300 applications were submitted for the competition from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. Twelve of the best projects made it to the finals in four main categories, as well as in a special category called ‘People’s Love.’ The winning teams included students and alumni of the Higher School of Economics.

The Public Charger project developed by HSE MIEM graduate Alexei Rolich has been selected as one of the winners in the Start programme developed by the Foundation for the Support of Small Businesses in Science and Technology. The programme focuses on researchers who want to turn their ideas into a sustainable business. Rolich will receive a 2 million rouble grant for the first stage of development of his project.

Students of the Higher School of Economics have developed an app called Chill that allows users to talk to their friends on their portable devices (the Apple Watch and Android Wear) without using text or voice. The application went on the market June 9^th and was instantly added to Product Hunt, the world’s largest platform for startups.
