This year, the HSE Film Institute is welcoming its first applicants. How does the Institute teach screenwriters, directors, actors, and producers? How do the Institute’s degree programmes differ from those of other specialised universities? What’s a better way for students to enter the industry—arthouse or mainstream films? How will the industry deal with the economic crisis? Alexander Akopov, Director of the HSE Film Institute, answered these questions and more in an interview with the HSE News Service.

AFK Sistema's scholarship competition for software and hardware projects of the Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM), HSE University, has come to a close. The aim of the competition was to find talented teams of designers in the field of microelectronics among MIEM students. The winners of the competition were awarded personal scholarships.

MIEM HSE Professor Lev Shchur is celebrating his 70th birthday. In his recent interview with MIEM HSE News Service, he talks about the first scientific computer network created in the Soviet Union, the state of computational physics today, and the current online and offline work being conducted by his research team of undergraduates and faculty members.

As part of an industry project organized by the association of marketing professionals and HSE University—and with the active participation of business community members—master’s students of the Retail Management and of the Marketing: Digital Technologies and Marketing Communications programmes presented their projects for addressing environmental and social problems to jurors. The work was evaluated by representatives of such major brands as MTS, Pyaterochka, VTB, McDonald’s in Russia, Unilever and others—all of which uphold ESG principles in their activities.

In April 2022, HSE University’s 'Master of Data Science’  Programme held their first online graduation ceremony in English.  17 out of the 48 students completed their studies with distinction.

The HSE University Institute of Education (IOE) will launch new courses as part of its master’s programmes in the 2022/23 academic year. They are designed to provide competencies to those either currently working or planning to work in education. The plans have already gained financial support: the Vladimir Potanin Foundation ran a grant competition in which two HSE University Institute of Education entries won grants and another made the reserve list.

An Open Day for the Master's Programme in Film Production took place in the HSE building on Pokrovsky Boulevard, with Dmitry Kotov, Deputy Director of HSE Film Institute talking to prospective students. This updated programme will be launched later in the year.

A master class by the artist Alisa Gorshenina took place in HSE Art and Design School in March. Over three days participants created their works, using stop motion animation techniques under Alisa's guidance.
