HSE University to Launch 11 Projects with Research Centres from Five Countries
HSE University has announced the results of its International Academic Cooperation (IAC) competition for joint fundamental research projects. Five projects have received full funding, while six more have been awarded partial funding. The research teams include scholars from Brazil, South Africa, China, India, and Oman. Alexander Balyshev, HSE University Vice President, shared details of the 2026 IAC competition winners.

The HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis studies a wide range of methods for analysing decision-making and possible scenarios for the development of natural, socio-economic, and political phenomena using various mathematical models. The application of advanced mathematical methods to forecasting helps to prevent negative outcomes and avoid erroneous decisions. HSE Faculty and Kunshan Partner to Advance Urban Development in Russia and China
The Faculty of Urban and Regional Development (FURD) at HSE University and the municipal government of Kunshan, China, have agreed to develop expert and educational cooperation between Russian and Chinese cities. The partnership will involve exchanging professional expertise, designing professional development programmes, and jointly studying urban development.
Africa, Youth, and Civic Dialogue: Public Diplomacy Discussed at HSE University
In September, HSE University hosted a discussion titled Civil Society in African Countries and Youth Participation in Public Diplomacy. Representatives of NGOs from Ghana, Ethiopia, and Russia, along with students from HSE University’s Bachelor’s Programme in Public Administration, discussed how young people without official diplomatic status can influence relations between countries and how the nonprofit sector can remain sustainable amid declining grant funding.

A Century of Quantum Theory: Ana María Cetto Discusses the Future of Quantum Physics at HSE University
HSE MIEM hosted a talk by Prof. Ana María Cetto titled ‘The First Hundred Quantum Years. What Next?’ The prominent theoretical physicist and contributor to two Nobel Peace Prizes addressed the fundamental problem of the lack of a unified interpretation of quantum theory and the incomplete understanding of its physical foundations. Eduardo Villegas Mejías, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to the Russian Federation, attended the event.

Sashadhar Dutta, from India, is a second-year PhD student at the HSE Doctoral School of Economics. He is currently working on his PhD thesis titled ‘On Some New Bounds Connected with Recurrent Sequences Modulo Prime’. Sashadhar spoke to the HSE News Service about why HSE deserves its good reputation, what he likes about Moscow, and how his time at HSE has changed his perceptions of both Russia and his own research.
