HSE University’s new Master’s Programme ‘Critical Media Studies’, offered by the Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design, is now accepting applications for fall 2020. Programme Academic Supervisor and HSE Assistant Professor Panos Kompatsiaris explains what kinds of courses and research opportunities await the programme’s first cohort, and what makes the programme unique.

On October 25-26, the International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) and the Laboratory of Financial Economics (LFE) hosted the Eighth International Moscow Finance Conference at HSE University. This year’s programme included researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles; University of California, Berkeley; University of Warwick; University of Lausanne; and the London School of Economics. Their presentations dealt with a wide range of timely topics, including the forecasting potential of data science models.

Students of the HSE and University of London Parallel Degree Programme in International Relations earned some of the highest scores worldwide on the exams that the University of London administers at its foreign partner universities.

Of the original 300 students enrolled in doctoral programmes set to graduate this year, only 126 reached the final stage of the process—the dissertation defence. While congratulating the recent class of graduates, HSE Vice Rector Vyacheslav Bashev noted that such a large attrition rate testifies to the seriousness of those who have made it to graduation. ‘Though many of you work, you continue to invest in yourselves intellectually,’ he said.

International students who are interested in applying to a bachelor’s or master’s programme at HSE University for Fall 2020 may now do so online.

Daniil Kostyshin, a fourth-year student of the ‘Fashion Design’ track in the HSE Art and Design School at HSE University, presented a collection of his own design at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia. His collection, ‘21’, was inspired by old family photos of his childhood during the early 2000s.

Whether it’s a magnet, a bookmark, or a postcard with a picture of a beloved artist – any kind of souvenir influences a museum’s image in the eyes of visitors and is considered to be an important marketing tool. Souvenirs, which tourists bring home as keepsakes of their travels, play an even bigger role in shaping the brand of a city as whole.

The HSE News Service attended the first workshop held at a new laboratory that has been equipped for chemistry students. In the new laboratory, first-year students will be able to conduct experiments and learn how to work with different substances.
