The Higher School of Economics is welcoming its first class of students to the Faculty of Physics. The new faculty is unique in that it fosters a close relationship between education and science. Francis Tyers – Drawn by Russia’s Linguistic Diversity

One of HSE’s newest faculty members is Francis Tyers, who will join the School of Linguistics on August 28 as an Assistant Professor. A native of Normanton on Soar, a small village in the south of Nottinghamshire in England, he joins HSE following a postdoctoral fellowship at UiT Norgga árktalaš universitehta in Tromsø in the north of Norway, where he worked on language technology for Russian and the Sámi languages. Prior to that, he completed PhD studies in the Department of Languages and Information Systems at the Universitat d'Alacant in Spain.

How Women Perpetuate Gender Stereotypes

In a conservative society, women as well as men tend to hold sexist attitudes towards other women, treating them with disrespect and criticising them either for being too feminine and sexual or for taking on traditionally 'male' roles. This type of gender bias assumes a limited range of 'female' roles in society. Misogyny and distrust of women's abilities can generate a fear of femininity, according to Olga Savinskaya and Elizaveta Zakharova's paper Using Mixed Methods to Study Internalised Misogyny among Millennial Women.

Professor Littrell to Teach the Art of Doing Business in Asia

In September students of the Master's programme 'State, Society and Economic Development in Modern Asia' will get acquainted with its supervisor Professor Romie Frederick Littrell. Future orientalists will study with him the intricacies of international business, management and the foundations of leadership. Professor’s rich practical experience of doing business in the United States, the Caribbean region and in China, combined with ongoing academic activities, promises that the lessons will be fascinating and extremely useful.
