French Delegation Visits School of Business Informatics to Discuss Cooperation in Big Data Studies
In March 2016, the School of Business Informatics (Faculty of Business and Management) at HSE was visited by a delegation from France’s University of Évry; in late 2015, a student exchange agreement was signed between HSE and this university. The delegation brought 19 students from the Master’s programmes in the field of big data at the University of Évry to Moscow.
Russians Have Low Trust in Domestic Clothing Brands
Despite the recent arrival of new domesic brands in the clothing market, many Russians remain loyal to imports. The Desire to Dance is More Important than Natural Talent
The Higher School of Economics boasts several dozen dance studios. One of the oldest is the Sona Hovsepyan Dance Company, which has been operating at HSE since 2007. HSE Moves Closer to the City Centre
This year, many students and staff of HSE in Moscow will change the location of their study and work. Instead of some sites in districts on the outskirts of the sity, the university is using buildings in the centre. In addition to that, faculty departments which are now scattered in various parts of the city will move closer to each other. This will allow lecturers and students to spend less time commuting.

Maternal Capital Leads to Earlier Second Births
Maternal capital has helped increase birthrates in Russia, but its contribution to total fertility has been limited so far, with just 15 more children per 100 women of reproductive age, according to Fabian Slonimczyk and Anna Yurko, Associate Professors at the HSE International College of Economics and Finance. On the other hand, the proportion of women wishing to have more than one child has increased, and postponed births tend to occur sooner than planned, apparently influenced by the country's pro-fertility policies.
Winners of the National Award in Applied Economics 2016 Announced
The prestigious National Award has been granted to Ekaterina Zhuravskaya, Professor at the Paris School of Economics, and Evgeny Yakovlev, Professor and Director of the New Economic School Data Centre, for their paper ‘The Unequal Enforcement Of Liberalization: Evidence From Russia's Reform Of Business Regulation’. The National Award in Applied Economics is given once every two years for outstanding published papers that analyse the Russian economy at the country, industry, regional, or company level.
