  • Participants of HSE LED Conference Discuss Progress in Linguistics and Pedagogy

    On April 20–21, the HSE School of Foreign Languages held the V International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Languages. Education. Development’ (HSE LED). It was held online and dedicated to current trends in linguistics and pedagogy. Over two days, about 1,700 participants (including more than 220 speakers) took part in the event—40% more than in the previous academic year.

  • ‘We Have Come Very Close to Exploring the Field of Superconducting Electronics’

    Physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology form the core fields of research at the Centre for Quantum Metamaterials of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). Prof. Alexei Vagov, director of the centre, discusses its key activities, which focus on exploring the prospects of creating materials with predefined properties through manipulating their structure at the quantum level.

  • HSE Delegation Visits Five Chinese Universities

    An HSE delegation has held a series of meetings with leading Chinese universities: Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beihang University, Xi’an Jiaotong–Liverpool University, and Tongji University. The visit programme was organised by the Institute of Education.

  • ‘Meet Professors, Gain Experience’: Uzbek Lyceum Students Undertake Placement at HSE

    The fourth off-site school organised under the Lyceum Classes project has taken place with the support of HSE University and implemented by the HSE Department of Internationalisation. This year, 79 students from International House Tashkent and Interhouse Lyceum came to HSE. The programme includes an introduction to the university, the opportunity to attend classes, and tours around Moscow.  

  • Nikita Anisimov Appointed HSE Rector for New Five-Year Term

    By decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov has been appointed for a new five-year term. The corresponding resolution was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

  • Fair Division: How Mathematics Helps to Divide the Indivisible

    How can items be allocated among participants so that no one feels short-changed? Alexander Karpov, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, and his Singaporean colleague, Prof. Warut Suksompong, set out to find a mathematical answer to this question. In this interview, they discuss how a model of rational preferences is constructed, why one cannot rely on a simple sum of values, and where an algorithm that asks a minimal number of questions can be useful.

  • New Master’s Programme from HSE University and SIBUR Bridges Fundamental Science and High‑Tech Industry

    HSE University and SIBUR have opened admissions for the joint track ‘New Polymer Materials and Petrochemistry’ within the Master’s programme in Chemistry of Molecular Systems and Materials. The programme will prepare specialists with a solid scientific foundation and the project management skills required in the petrochemical industry. Studies will begin in September 2026 at the HSE Faculty of Chemistry.

  • China Bets on Expanding Leading Universities, Postgraduate Education, and STEM Fields

    At the XXVI April International Academic Conference named after Evgeny Yasin at HSE University, one of the distinguished speakers was Prof. Liguo Li of the School of Education at Tsinghua University. He spoke about changes in the structure of higher education in China in line with national strategic priorities, including a proposed 1.7–2-fold increase in the number of leading research universities.

  • Scientists Develop Algorithm for Accurate Financial Time Series Forecasting

    Researchers at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science benchmarked more than 200,000 model configurations for predicting financial asset prices and realised volatility. This technique increased accuracy in 65% of cases. The authors also developed an algorithm that achieves accuracy comparable to that of the best models while requiring less computational power.
